In addition to our attentive service you will be given on call access to one of our representatives, a full color report with images once our appraisal is complete, and in depth research into each of your pieces.

Your Appraisal Report

An art appraisal report is an official document prepared by a qualified appraiser. Each appraisal is different, they depend on the purpose of the report. Since, according to it, the value might differ because it will serve a specific need.

Appraisal reports can be for insurance (coverage and claim), federal tax functions (federal state tax, charitable contributions, gift tax, casualty laws), equitable distributions, liquidation, and others.

The process involves identifying and analyzing comparable sales and determining a value for the piece. It also entails in-depth research of the piece. Among other aspects, provenance, exhibitions, and publications. The report should compile any existing documents related to the piece. It will also reflect the conservation state and its value.

What will the Appraiser need from you?

APPRAISAL CHECKLIST

- Good photographs of the piece (front, back, signature, and details if necessary). If the piece had a restoration or

- Technical information (title, date, technique, dimensions [height, with, depth- do not include the frame], edition number if applicable)

- Documents for each piece, if available (Invoices, certificates of authenticity, correspondence with the artist or the seller, conservation reports, exhibition or auction catalogues, newspaper clips).

 

Our Appraiser may need to contact you after the data collection with questions about the pieces. We will make contact through phone or email.

When and how will you receive your Appraisal Report?

You will receive two hard copies by mail or hand delivered by a Valia Garzon team member . The time it will take will to receive your report will depend on the type of work and the number of pieces. You will be given an expected timeframe within two days of starting.
